Missions at Journey Christian Church

Journey Christian Church has been a strong missions-minded church since our founding in 1956.  Today, we support 32 missionary families in 10 foreign countries plus the United States. We are a strong proponent of personal involvement in missions through prayer, finances, and participation.

Prayer – we publish a Monthly Prayer Calendar for Missions as a prayer tool, listing a specific prayer request for one of our supported missionaries on each day of the month.

Finances – the Missions Board develops an annual Missions Budget which allocates missions giving (separate from General Fund giving) to support our missionaries and to support mission projects and short-term mission trips.

Participation:

  • 5th and 6th Graders serve locally at the Open Door Mission and Rochester Family Mission in downtown Rochester.  They have an annual spring missions experience, known as the 4:12 Team, based on 1 Timothy 4:12.
  • Junior and Senior High Youth serve inner-city Rochester through Flower City Work Camp during the school spring break, joining with other local church youth and adult leaders to do home repairs, Sidewalk Bible Clubs, and Basketball Camps.

  • Senior High Youth serve through the annual summer missions trip, known as Summer Servants.  Over the years, Summer Servant Teams have served outside the U.S. (Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras) and in the U.S. (New York City, Philadelphia, Chicago, Pittsburgh, New Orleans)

  • Adult Short-Term Mission Trips have served in the U.S. (Brooklyn, NY) and outside the U.S. (Costa Rica, Guatemala, Romania/Moldova, England, Philippines, and Papua New Guinea)

Missions Sundays, held twice a year in April and October, provide an opportunity for visiting missionaries to share their ministries and adult short-term mission trips to report on their work for the Lord.
