Our “Life Together” Approach
At Journey, we see our Life Together Groups as the primary channel of care and accountability. Each group is led by a leader dedicated to creating an environment for those in their group to grow in spiritual maturity and support one another on their journey with Christ. Key elements of every group are prayer, care, encouragement, service and spiritually-stimulating reflection on the Word of God.
Underlying our passion for Life Together Groups is the desire to be a church where every person is connected, loved, challenged, and equipped for the glory of God. We desire to be the body of Christ as He intended it to be – many parts forming one body, as Paul described in I Corinthians 12:12-26. Therefore, our passion is for us to live out our lives together as a community. Community means each person makes a “common commitment” to know others and be known by others, to allow the Scripture to define what is true and what matters most, and to be encouraged and supported by others for our progress in maturing spiritually.
We believe that this biblical community is reflected throughout the New Testament. Each book in the New Testament is about imperfect people, learning to love, forgive, embrace and relate with other imperfect people and reflect the person of Christ and bring glory to His name. The New Testament is saturated with relational language - forgive, serve, share, encourage, stimulate, build up, honor, respect, speak truth, be compassionate.
So the call for us as believers is at its core, a call to authentic, life enhancing and life changing community. In Life Together Groups we learn to live together like Jesus lives - in loving obedience to the Father and in loving commitment to one another overflowing to serving the community around us with the love and gospel of Christ.
We are convinced that being an active part of a small group is the best way to fulfill this vision, and to live out the ‘one another’ commands the Lord gives us in Scripture…be devoted to one another, honor one another, love one another, accept one another, encourage one another, serve one another, and be kind and compassionate to one another.
